Recreation and physical activity projects are often supported through grants offered by private funders, including business and philanthropic foundations.

Interested organizations should thoroughly review program guidelines and contact the funder prior to application for further information.

Alberta Blue Cross - Healthy Communities Grant Program

Four $50,000 grants are being awarded each year to support community amenities and facilities that promote active living.

Project examples that support active living could include:

  • Construction or replacement of children’s playgrounds
  • Outdoor adult gyms
  • Cycling paths
  • Recreational facility improvements

The Lawson Foundation is focused on the wellbeing of children and youth and invests in three interconnected impact areas.

Early Child Development
Promoting and enhancing early child development for the benefit of children, families and Canadian society.

Healthy Active Living
Increasing opportunities for all children and youth to be active and make healthy choices to ensure their full potential.

Children, Youth and the Environment
Promoting the value of outdoor spaces and providing opportunities for children and youth to connect with, value and become stewards of their natural environment.

In addition to three primary impact areas, the Lawson Foundation also makes targeted community investments through the Miggsie Lawson Fund and our Special Initiatives Program.

Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAWWS

The Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) both recognizes the achievements of girls and women, as well as provides grant opportunities.

On an annual basis CAAWS calls for nominees for each of our awards and recognitions.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart

Jumpstart funds kids who want to get active. Kids who want to learn a new sport or activity. Kids who want to keep up with a sport or activity they already enjoy. But these kids just need a little extra financial help to get their name on the roster.

Kids aged 4 to 18 from families in financial need can receive funding to help with registration fees, equipment and/or transportation.
